CFL Concepts, Feb 2025
I've tried to create an alternate jersey for every NHL team in the vein of the Canucks' Flying V jersey and the modern Stadium Series jerseys... A bit out there, hopefully without getting caricaturishly ugly or awkward.
Hover over/tap on a team for info and jerseys.
Atlantic Schooners
Straightforward with the Schooners. They nailed the logo the first time; no need for change, IMO.
Just went with a jersey design based on the logo waves, and went with seafoam at home for a more nautical look. I'm a fan of a NY Giants-style jersey system where one color doesn't necessarily appear on all the jerseys, so the white jersey goes without.
British Columbia Lions
BC kinda gave me a hard time, but hopefully this looks alright!
The team returns to silver helmets and pants like the '90s, but it's the Cowboys' green-ish silver for more of an oceanic look. The slate gray color from their alternate is promoted to the primary in place of black. A spikey font represents the team's namesake mountains.
For the logo, mainly I just messed with the stroke weight, ditched the awkward triple outlines on the text, and added a mountain.
Calgary Stampeders
Ripping Mark Crosby's Colts concept with the horseshoe striping, and adding it to the Stampeders' basically perfect IRL uniforms. Swapped in a more Western font. Honestly this concept is change for its own sake, because what else is there to do?
Edmonton Elks
The logo gets a tweak to look a bit more refined, and include a football. For the jerseys, I'm ripping Mark Crosby's Packers concept this time for the hunting theme with the camo and orange hue, added to the classic Edmonton jersey striping pattern, as showcased in the team's new IRL wordmark.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats
I like their current jerseys quite a bit but I figured I'd go with a yellow version of their '60s-'90s jerseys, with a little city flag chainlink flair.
London Sawyers
London is the Forest City, so we get a forestry-themed brand with the Sawyers. Tried to throw something together to emulate the Pittsburgh Pirates / Erie Seawolves logo baseball bats, as well as the original UFL California Redwoods. Colors are vaguely inspired by the London Knights, but the league could use a brown team.
Montréal Alouettes
I really liked their uniform design when they first debuted their new brand, but they keep tweaking it in ways that make it worse, IMO... So here's my attempt to change it in the other direction, while incorporating a bit more of the team's history.
The logo gets more spread wings to look both more bird-like and more fleur-de-lys-like. For one version of the logo, I put it in a triangle to make a 1970s fauxback logo.
On the helmet, the bird doesn't fly over the top like before, nor does it appear with ugly double outlines, but with the wings spreading out like the original helmet.
The burgundy jersey base color is back from the 2000s.
New Brunswick Swells
New Brunswick gets a Hopewell Rocks / Bay of Fundy tides themed identity; hopefully playing in Moncton in St John Sea Dogs colors can unite the province and isn't too cursed...
Newfoundland Medusas
I learned that the largest species of jellyfish in the world, the Lion's Mane Jellyfish, appears frequently in Newfoundland and Labrador, so I created a jellyfish worked into a simple "NM" monogram for Newfoundland Medusas! The color scheme is Newfoundland tricolor pink & green, and the striping design is a vague tentacles/waves pattern.
Ottawa Renegades
Not a fan of the Redblacks name so I restored the Renegades name, but I'm not a fan of the Renegades logo, so I worked around the original Rough Riders "R" design. I added in the arrows from the Ottawa city coat of arms for a hunting/outdoorsman theme, and the arrow striping includes Rideau Canal chevrons.
Québec Canoniers
Citadelle-themed branding, city flag / rampart striping, name that pretty much works bilingually.
Saskatchewan Roughriders
Saskatchewan's logo is a combo of their current primary and their alternate helmet logo. Stripes are based on the '60s-'80s jersey, and get the wheat stalk from the aforementioned alt logo.
Toronto Argonauts
I like the addition of oars onto the jersey as an idea but they kinda went overboard (no pun intended) IRL, so I dialed it back a bit. Also prefer dark blue as their base. Kept the font but inlined it to match the overall Toronto flag + oar combo design.
Victoria Monarchs
We go with a Monarch butterfly (whose body is a football) to marry the Butchart Gardens with the city's namesake. The sleeve stripes are inspired by the Minnesota Vikings and the city coat of arms. The pants have a Pacific dogwood flower, the provincial flower of BC.
Windsor Rockets
Restoring the Ontario Rugby Football Union team name from the 1940s (despite the league name, they played Canadian football!) The branding is themed around the Ambassador Bridge. Copied the red accent from the Kelowna Rockets cuz that color scheme is nice.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
I find the Bombers' current logo quite boring so here's a football plane instead :)
The lightning bolt idea is vaguely inspired by their 1961 helmets and '90s logo, but I tried to keep it fairly simple.
Generally not wild about military-themed branding personally, but a RCAF-inspired font looks good here in a vacuum so I went with that.
